Memorial Day Weekend

For Memorial Day weekend we headed to Orlando. Mitchell has a soccer tournament at Wide World of Sports, so my parents rented a townhouse at a resort outside of Disney. Here is a video of Liam helping me pack this morning.

The Famous Bear

Shannon sent Jimmy a 7 lb blue Gummi Bear for his birthday. I didn't post these photos earlier, since we didn't know when Jimmy would get his care package. But he called her today, so here they are. We were cracking up that the bear was the size of Liam.

Chicken Pox Rant

Yesterday I called the Dr. office and asked if they wanted to see Liam if he has the chicken pox or whether just keep him at home since they really can't do anything for him since its a virus. I called the nurse at 9:25. By 10:30 she called me back asking when did he get his shot and what symptoms he is having. So I told her he had a fever on Friday etc. etc. She kept asking whether he had blisters or fluid filled sores.
I told her yes he has bumps on his arms and legs that look like fire ant bites.
So she said, so he doesn't have blisters.
That's right no blisters (or what I would call blisters) but smaller bumps on his arms, legs, and face.
So no fluid filled sores like pimples?
No he does have them. He looks like a bumpy toad.
But no blisters?
No blisters.
What about scabs?
None that I've noticed.
So no fluid filled blisters?
No, but smaller bumps on his arms and legs
I'll talk to the doctor and call you back

1:30pm Well it falls in the right timeline of when he would get them if it was from the vaccine. Dr. Lockhart said because it isn't following the progression of chicken pox (aka fever, rash, bumps, and scabs) that its prob a viral fever rash. Does he have blisters?...Okay, insert the 1st conversation again and then she when to explain what chicken pox would look like. If anything changes call us back.

First of all, I know what chicken pox looks like. I had them when I was 13. It wasn't pretty. Second, I know what a viral rash looks like. Liam has already had hand-foot-mouth disease and croup, both have viral rashes. He has raise fluid filled bumps not blisters. Blisters to me are larger than pimples or fire ant bites like the size of a pea. And its not a flat rash. If it wasn't chicken pox, I would be a hell of a lot more concerned of the raised rash and they should have asked for me to bring him in if they thought it might be something else. He didn't have scabs when I called, but by the end of the day he did. I didn't even bother calling back and waiting all day to here back from them. I'll talk to Lockhart at his next appt.

Chicken Pox

Liam received his chicken pox vaccine May 5th at his one year appt. Dr. Lockhart told me that since it was a live vaccine that he could get chicken poxs with in the next month. Poor guy, he's covered in them. Here's Liam in awe of the poxs on his belly.

365

I took a picture of Liam everyday since the day he was born. I wanted to keep a record of him because I know how fast they change in that first year. I just finished putting the last couple of photos in the set today. So here it is. If you want to see it in slideshow format there is an icon in the upper right corner.

Daddy in Charge

Liam is cutting his molars, so Clay stayed home with Liam while I went to Mass. We knew he would be a handful so it made sense that at least one of us would be able to enjoy church. This is what my living room looked like when I got home. Note the wicker toy chest usually sits up against the wall and not the walkway.

Mommy's Little Helper

As I started to unload the top rack of the dishwasher, I turned my attention away briefly to put the bottles away in the cabinet. When I turned back around I saw that Liam had crawled into the dishwasher to "help" me unload.

Day at the Zoo

Today Shauna, Kayla, and I took the babies to the Zoo. It was so nice out; It wasn't too hot or sunny out and there was a light breeze. Here's Liam watching the rhinos, which he kept calling doggies.

Liam and I feed the birds. I had several land on me which freaked me out and made Liam cry.

Liam making faces and noises at the monkeys. They were all hiding in the corner until Kayla went to give Penelope a PB&J, which definitely got their attention. They kept motioning for us to throw part of the sandwich to them.

Mother's Day Weekend

This weekend we went back to Bradenton for Mother's Day. On Saturday, Shannon gave Liam his birthday present. He loves his new kitchen. Thanks Aunt Shannie!
Liam also helped me with our Mother's day present to my mom. We all know how boys love to play with dirt.

1yr checkup

Liam had his 1 year checkup today. He slid backwards to the 85% for his height (31") and remained in the 30% for his weight (21lbs 8oz) which is weird since 10 days ago he as 21lbs 12oz. However Dr. Lockhart was concerned about his head. He has dropped to the 3rd percentile. She wanted to make sure its was a genetic thing vs a medical thing. After checking his skull to make sure his bones were still pliable and hadn't closed up completely, we sat down and had a conversation about family history. Since I have a really tiny head, I can wear Liam's hat and sunglasses and they fit, she isn't overly concerned but will continue to monitor his head more closely.

Liam also meet all of his milestones including 3 words other than mama and dada, crawling, walking, playing ball, and standing from a squatting position. He now can have whole milk, but we discussed since I'm lactose intolerant and Liam shows signs too, that it might be better to hold off until he's 15mths instead. Liam is also big enough now that we can turn his car seat around, but Clay and I will probably hold off on that as long as possible.

It wouldn't be a trip to the doctors office without shots. Liam had his MMR and his chicken poxs vaccines. I asked about the chicken poxs vaccine and why is it that they give it to kids so frequently now. Dr. Lockhart said that there was 700,000 hospitalized cases last year, and if you have 200-300 sores/poxs that is a great way to get a Staph/MRSA infection. I never even thought of that. I did know that he needed the chicken pox shot for school.
